About Bonding & Filling Dental Treatment

Bonding & Filling Treatments

Bonding is the application of a tooth-colored resin material using adhesives (glue) and high-intensity light. This procedure got its name because of the materials glued to the teeth. Bonding is typically used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discolored or worn tooth, and it is recommended not to consume coloring foods and beverages after this treatment, which is usually performed in a single session.

Bonding Indications

To treat decayed or infected teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)

  • To repair worn or cracked teeth
  • To improve the appearance of discolored teeth
  • To close diastema (gaps between teeth)
  • To make teeth look longer
  • To change the shape of the teeth
  • As a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings

To protect part of the tooth root that is exposed when the gums recede

Filling Treatment

Our teeth decay for various reasons and a cavity called cavity is formed in the decay area. These cavities create bad aesthetics and dysfunction. To treat the cavity, the decayed part of the tooth is cleaned and then this area is cleaned with composite etc. “filled” with materials.

Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth worn down by parafunction (from misuse – such as nail biting or teeth grinding).

What are the stages involved in filling a tooth?

First, the dentist uses local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth to be filled. Then, a variety of burs are used to remove the rotten area. The choice of instrument depends on the dentist’s comfort level, training and investment in a particular piece of equipment, as well as the location and size of the cavity.

The dentist then examines the area to determine whether all the decay has been removed. Once the cavity has been removed, the dentist cleans the cavity of bacteria and debris and prepares the area for filling.

If the decay is close to the root, your dentist may first place a lining made of glass ionomer, composite resin or another material to protect the nerve. The filling material to be used is selected to be compatible with the patient’s tooth color.

After filling, the necessary abrasion processes are carried out for full compliance and the polishing-polishing stage is started. As with other treatments, the patient is informed by the physician about the points to be considered after the filling treatment.
